peter maurin writes:
if we are crazy, then it is because we refuse to be crazy in the same way that the world has gone crazy
what is crazier:
one person owning the same amount of money as the combined economies of 23 countries, or suggesting that if we shared there would be enough for everyone?
spending billions of dollars on a defence shield or shareing the billions so we dont need one?
maintaining arms contracts with 154 coutnries while asking the world to disarm its weapons of mass destruction or suggesting that we lead the world in disarmament by refusing to deal weapons with over the world and emptying the world's largest stockpile here at home?(the author is refering to the states, but its still something to think about).
less then 6% of the worlds population consumes nearly half the worlds resources
the hope should be that someday war and poverty will be crazy...but it takes alot of faith to get to that point. i hope someday the big world leaders realize that war doesnt really solve anything, it just gets more killed. as shane claiborne put in this book,
the only thing harder then war is peace, and the only thing that takes more work, tears and sweat then divison is reconciliation. but what more more beautiful things would we devote our lives to?
until the courage we have for peace surpasses the courage we have for war, violence will continue to triumph and imperial execution rather than divine resurrection will have the final word
that was a little snippet of the book "irresistable revolution" by shane claiborne in a little of my own words. the book had many important points and i would recomend reading it(adam reccomending a book? now thats crazy)
